Qwiki

Qwiki. Is it the next Google?

Late last week, it received $8 million in venture capital from prominent names like Eduardo Saverin (co-founder of Facebook) and Jawed Karim (co-founder, YouTube).

So what exactly is Qwiki (pronounced like 'quicky') and why is it the buzz of the digital information consumption industry?

Doug Imbruce, CEO of Qwiki, said the problem with digital information consumption today is not the lack of it but rather the overload of it.

There are few startups that have fueled as much passion and hatred all at once as Qwiki. The service, which we covered as the winner of Disrupt: San Francisco, aims to change the way in which we consume information.

While the proof-of-concept demonstration was strong, showing a visualized, narrated version of the information displayed in Wikipedia, the service still has quite a fewnay sayers who think it won’t fly.

To get more access to Qwiki, users can sign up for their alpha program at their website.

Fairly Legal

Fairly Legal

There are few shows that hook me on the pilot episode, but Fairly Legal may be one of them. For me, the trick is to combine great characters with an interesting premise that will make me want to come back for more.

Word from Sarah Shahi on 'Legal,' which the star describes as "'Law & Order' meets 'Sex and the City,'" Sarah plays Kate Reed a legal mediator who works for her step-mother and is still tangled with her soon-to-be ex-husband. "There's really great character dynamic on the show," she explains. But Shahi wants to make it clear it's not the same old procedural. "It's like the anti-law law show."

Besides loving the role she plays, Shahi reveals another benefit of starring on the series -- the fashion.
"I did love the clothes. We were very designer heavy. She's the anti-lawyer, I didn't want her to look corporate and business like. I wanted her to wear more outfits and look thrown together," she explains of the wardrobe. "It was a lot of Alexander Wang, Phillip Lim, Thakoon, Dries Van Noten, Helmut Lang ... [just] young, great, hip designers."
